Proposals by ACHD and CNA regarding Hill Road/36th./Catalpa Intersection:
(Click on a link to go to that map.)
Alternative 2 is the plan proposed by ACHD which would cut Hill Road off going east from the 36th. Street intersection, forcing everyone to turn South at 36th. It would cut off Catalpa before 36th., forcing cars to turn on a new road going up to Hill Road before the intersection. There would be a new road a few blocks South of Hill Road which would have a light. The object is to force all cars down to State Street. This proposal was voted "unacceptable" by the CNA.
Alternative 1 was voted "acceptable" by CNA at the last Public Hearing. This alternative would leave the Hill Road/36th. Street/Catalpa intersection as it is and concentrate on improvements to Collister and Pierce Park streets instead, specifically where they join State Street. The idea here is that if these were improved, making access to State Street easier, people would use these roads more rather than coming East on Hill Road. That, in turn, would alleviate many of the problems encountered at the Hill Road/36th. Street/Catalpa intersection.
Alternative 3 did not carry an CNA "acceptable" majority vote at the last Public Hearing. This alternative would cut off Hill Road at the 36th. Street intersection, forcing cars to turn Right to the south, headed toward State Street. Then, it would re-create Catalpa, bending it south to an intersection with a light which would turn into Hill Road once more, crossing 36th. Street.
